INDOOR AIR QUALITY
The air quality within and around buildings and structures impacts the health and comfort of building occupants. Known as Indoor Air Quality, it can be affected by particulates, pollutants, microbial contaminants or any mass or energy stressor that can induce adverse health conditions. Indoor Air Quality in Malaysia should abide by the Industry Code Of Practice On Indoor Air Quality 2010 - Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia.
i. collecting available information about the history of the building and its ventilation system;
ii. collecting previous record of IAQ complaints;
iii. notifying the building occupants of the upcoming investigation;
iv. identifying key individuals for access to relevant information as well as relevant locations within the building;
v. identifying potential contaminants and their sources.
i. Biological contaminants – bacteria, viruses, fungi (including molds), dust mite and pollen.
ii. Chemical pollutants – tobacco smoke, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide (products of combustion), carbon dioxide, ozone and VOC (products from food court).
iii. Particles – solid or liquid substances, which are, light enough to be suspended in the air. Particles of dust, dirt or other substance may be drawn into the building from outside and also be produced by activities that occur in the building.
